Can I choose your opponent's pieces to exchange?

No. You can only choose your own pieces to swap. You can only exchange your own pieces, and you can't exchange your pieces to the empty squares, not to the squares already occupied by your opponent!

Can successive pieces be oriented horizontally, vertically or diagonally?

Yes. As long as three pieces are connected and in a straight line. You can win the game.
